Love Transcends

When I go thrift-shopping and I am fortunate enough to pick up vintage or antique pieces of lace or crocheted items I'm in absolute heaven! I love the feel of these precious items and as I run my fingers over them gingerly, I'm almost transported through time where I can envision a table dressed, a frock adorned or busy fingers pulling a thread through a needle or crochet hook.

I savor every step that leads up to re-using, re-purposing and saving these lovely heirlooms to create something new that will be cherished for perhaps yet another generation. After I handwash and dry even the tiniest bit of lace, trim or appliqué, I lay them to dry and enjoy the freshness that fills the room.

Hand sewing is so relaxing for me, I keep a tiny basket with a sewing project near my bed so I can simply reach over and pick up a project to run a few stiches before I turn off the lights to go to bed at night.

When I received this beautiful banner-like piece of crocheted edging in my DT package, I immediately knew I would be running my needle and thread through this fabulous piece. Since there were exactly four pennants, what better purpose for it than to share the L-O-V-E !

After I cut a floral pattern from a wide piece of lace I had in my own precious coffers, I backed the fragile piece to give it a bit more stability.I topped it using five different vintage and crocheted trims, including a delicate tatted edging that I cut from an old table runner. I added some beautiful heart-shaped buttons from Zeus and Zoe's at each end of the banner to anchor the many layers.

I chose another vintage lace to sew to the bottom edges of the crocheted banner as a frill, and used the same lace to edge three rosette-like pieces that I cut away from a tiny piece of trim as every little bit is so precious! I then added a mulburry flower to the centers and aligned the three rosettes in between the pennant wedges of the banner.

The finishing touch was hand-dying some appliqué pieces and arranging them to spell the word and spread the word.....LOVE !!!

I hope you will enjoy this piece as much as I have enoyed creating it :)

canvas and video tutorial from Tusia Lech

Hello everyone :)

I love creating canvas, because I can hang it later on the wall and enjoy its message and energy. I love bright colors and light - so it is surely not a surprise, that I created light canvas in pink and green with uplifting message and an angel :)

I have used amazing pieces of lace for creating some texture on the background (the whole process you can watch in my video below).

All beautiful flowers and vintage elements, together with tulle and lace come from Zeus&Zoe etsy store. I love feminine and vintage touch of all these elements!

Below you can see also a handmade flower created by Marivic Clifton herself (the big one). Isn't it beautiful!?

As you can see, I covered most of metallic (golden) pieces with gesso and then I added some colour.

I created a video - especially for you :) Enjoy :)

Beautiful - mixed media canvas by Zanka

Hey there:)
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
In my last DT post I hinted that I might continue playing with a self-made background and so I did :)

Today I have a mixed media canvas to show, with the background made from scratch, that is using pieces of vintage papers and magazines which I found in my Z&Z kit.
I adhered the pieces randomly to the canvas using modpodge and I sealed the surface with matte medium.
Then I white-washed the whole background with gesso and added some splashes of colour, coordinated with the colours of the picture wanted to use.

I particularly like the authentic vintage laces which were also included in my kit, here I used pieces of it to add some dimension.

Here you can see the 'work in progress' shot, when the bacground was ready and waiting for the rest of embellishments to arrive:)

Thanks for stopping by at our Zeus and Zoe blog!

D.C. by Dana Tatar

Hi! Dana here today sharing a layout today. I moved just outside Washington D.C. about a year ago and have been slowly exploring our Nation's capital. I had a lot of fun pulling vintage papers and embellishments that brought to mind our Founding Fathers from my Zeus and Zoe Kit to pair with this photo of my daughters and their cousins that I took on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.

This piece of paper is dated June 24, 1921! This is by far my favorite element on the page. This piece of paper is naturally aged and has a fantastic old paper smell.

I had a lot of fun playing with texture, adding layers of muslin, burlap and whipped spackle.

I tucked chipboard feathers, brass buttons and ribbon around these gorgeous Manor House Creations flowers. This embellishment cluster is reminiscent of cravats, vintage military uniforms, and quill pens. I added plenty of black ink splatters to finish the page.

Thanks for stopping by today! Please check out the Zeus and Zoe social media sites for more inspiration. If you'd like to pick up a one-of-a-kind Zeus and Zoe Kit for yourself, stop by the Zeus and Zoe Etsy Shop or email Marivic Clifton for a personal order.
